Digital skills training provider secures government funding for Liverpool expansion

A well-established Midlands-based digital skills training provider that helps people into employment and companies to plug the skills gap is expanding into the North West, backed by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA).

Following a successful rollout of courses which started in January 2022, Netcom Training is preparing to welcome its next cohort of learners, with 120 fully-funded places available across its five online digital skills courses.

The courses provide individuals with skills in the growing digital and technology industry that are urgently required by local businesses.

Available courses include digital design, cyber security, web design and marketing for entrepreneurs, IT technician, and AWS re/Start (cloud computing) in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The Government has placed learning at the heart of its Levelling Up White Paper, published in February 2022. It has pledged that, by 2030, the number of people successfully completing high-quality skills training will have significantly increased in all UK areas.

The coronavirus pandemic and the growth in hybrid working has led many people to reassess their careers. A 2021 poll of more than 4,000 people by Aviva found three out of five workers plan to learn new skills, gain qualifications or change career altogether.

Birmingham-based Netcom Training has also secured funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority to provide 365 fully-funded places on digital skills courses in the region.

The company is now targeting a national rollout of its training programmes.

Kevin Vashi, director for business growth at Netcom Training, said:

“We are excited to be expanding into the Liverpool City Region. Our fully-funded digital skills courses aim to transform the careers of learners, including those who are currently unemployed or those seeking to change the direction of their careers.

“Following successful completion of a course, we also provide learners with one-to-one support with their CVs, Interview techniques and into employment within the IT and digital communications sectors”

A spokesperson for the LCRCA Skills and Apprenticeship Hub said: “Liverpool City Region Combined Authority continues to ensure that residents and employers across the city region gain access to the skills they require.”

Learners must be aged 19 or over and live in the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Wirral, Halton, Knowsley, St Helens or Sefton).
